This week is a very exciting week for us in music! So we wanted to share our newsworthy tracks with you via our rdio playlist ‘EMIxtape #3′
We start things off with Damon Albarn’s newest project ‘Dr. Dee- The Marvelous Dream’. The whole album is an opera based on the infamous 16th-century alchemist John Dee.
For Track #2 we turn our dial to The Beach Boys with ‘That’s Why God Made The Radio’ their new single celebrating their 50th anniversary as a band! Their Anniversary Tour is a hot ticket this summer! Who doesn’t wanna hear their summer soundtrack LIVE from the ‘Boys’ themselves??
We’ve been waiting for this album to arrive in our hands, and we are no longer ‘So Close’! It’s here! ‘Cosmonaut And The Girl’ by BC Boy Shawn Hook is now available! Check him out on twitter.
Jarvis Church has launched his new project ‘The Soul Sessions’ with the first track ‘Do It Better’. There’s nothin’ better than good ol’ soul music!
Next up- ‘Next To Me’ by Brit sensation Emeli Sande! We can’t say enough amazing things about Emeli! She did 2 buzz shows in Toronto this winter and we are counting the days until she comes back. Her album drops June 5th- mark your calendars!
She needs no introduction, Norah Jones! Happy Pills is her first single off the album, but further down the record we are enjoying the haunting tune ‘Miriam’. What do ya think?
At #7 we’ve got Winterlseep. The band are gearing up for an album launch & tour this spring/summer and we’ve been cranking up this rock track ‘In Came The Flood’. Join us!
Heading down under for this next one. Sam Sparro brings us some Aussie tunage with ‘I Wish I Never Met You’. You can also take a peek at his old-school gangster style, MJ inspired video.
For track 9 we wanted to highlight this St. Lucia-born, now student in Canada, KAYO. While finishing up his university degree he’s been on tour with Hedley, writing music, making videos and we are assuming with this track he fits in a few parties here and there too KAYO- ’1 Night’.
To top off this EMIxtape, we end with non other than Beastie Boys- ‘Make Some Noise’. RIP MCA.
Hope you like our EMIxtape this week! Come back next Tuesday for more!
Norah Jones’ stunning upcoming release, Little Broke Hearts on Blue Note/EMI has been produced & co-written by Danger Mouse. The album cover (below) was inspired by all of Danger Mouse’s (Brian Burton) studio decor. Norah was specifically inspired by a Russ Meyer poster for “Mudhoney”. She says “…I want to look like her. I remember staring at the poster the whole time we made the record. It’s a great visual”

Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Norah Jones has announced the title and release date of her upcoming album, The Fall, her fourth studio album which will be released by EMI’s Blue Note Records on November 17. Jones has also revealed the cover artwork for the album, which features a portrait by photographer Autumn De Wilde.
Jones was the surprise guest performer at Apple’s “It’s Only Rock n’ Roll” press conference yesterday in San Francisco. Her breakout album Come Away With Me is one of the first albums to be released in the iTunes LP format, a new feature of iTunes 9 that reinvents the visual experience of the record album through live performance videos, lyrics, artwork, liner notes, interviews, photos, album credits and more. After being introduced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Jones performed “Come Away With Me” and also debuted “Young Blood,” a new song from The Fall.
Jones has taken a new direction on the The Fall, experimenting with different sounds and a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and Modest Mouse among others. Jones enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partners Jesse Harris and Richard Julian. King also helped Jones put together a new group of musicians to perform on the album, including drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer).
Since coming on the scene in 2002, Jones’ has sold a collective 36 million albums worldwide. Her three studio albums, 2002′s eight-time Grammy Award-winning Come Away With Me, 2004′s Feels Like Home, and 2007′s Not Too Late have each topped the Billboard top 200 album charts in the U.S. and gone to No. 1 around the world.
